The Surgery Residents and Consultants of AIIMS, New Delhi, were having a party at Dr. Suresh’s House.
Dr. Suresh took special care to see that his wife, Dr. Vinita, was getting portion of each dish. Noticing this, Dr. Vinita inquired, ‘Aare Suresh, why you are taking such special care of me today?’
Dr. Suresh replied, ‘You are the only one left for me to take care now that Madhuri Dixit has married.’ (Famous Hindi film actress)
Dr. Vinita consoled, ‘Take heart, after all she married a doctor.’
‘That is the saddest part’ replied Dr. Suresh, ‘When such eligible doctors like me were waiting for her in India, she had to go and marry someone from USA.

Madhuri Dixit had a large fan following among Doctors and medical students at the peak of her career. For most, it started with her dance in the movie Tezaab’s ‘Ek Do Teen’ song and reached a peak with her heart-scorching performance in the song ‘Dhak-Dhak Karne Laga’ from the movie ‘Beta’.
My friends who were studying in RNT Medical College, Udaipur, recalled when the movie ‘Beta’ was released in Udaipur.
The medicos of RNT Medical College had a very good relationship with the management of the nearby movie theatre ‘Chetak’ at Chetak Circle, Udaipur.
They used to go and watch movie at the theatre without the manager or staff ever asking them to buy any tickets. All shows were free for them. Even if the hall was full and any medicos of RNT Medical College came to watch movie, the staff will arrange folding chairs in the aisles and gallery to accommodate them.
There was an usher (torchman) named Kallubhai in the theatre. He also shared a very friendly relationship with the medicos of RNT Medical College.
Some medicos saw the movie ‘Beta’ 10 to 15 times at the ‘Chetak’ movie theatre (of course, without buying ticket) just for Madhuri’s dance in the ‘Dhak-Dhak’ song. But being, busy persons; alas many could not continue to give time for the full movie.
So, they noted the time when the ‘Dhak-Dhak’ song used to start in each show. When the song was about to start in the movie, horde of medicos used to leave the hospital and hostel, go to ‘Chetak’ theatre, knock on the hall’s closed door and demand, ‘Kallu, open the door.’
Kallu used to promptly oblige by opening the door. The medicos will stream in, sit or stand wherever they could find any space, watch mesmerised the ‘Dhak-Dhak’ song and again leave once the song was over and so on.
