Alcohol and The Doctor – Part 1

Dr. Dev (Fictional Name) and some of his friends decided to have a small party of the doctors working in the Private hospital to which he was a visiting consultant. The group of doctors first met at the house of one of the doctors in the evening for a small cocktail-drink party before going out for dinner.

Once the wine-ing part was over, it was time for some dining. When they were discussing among themselves where to go for the dinner, the senior physician said, “You continue with your dinner. I will go home now.”

Taken aback, the other doctors asked, “Why Dr. Sharma (Fictional Name), will you not take dinner with us?” Dr. Sharma replied, “I have made a strict rule to not go in any public place after taking even one peg of alcohol. I do not want the public to think adversely of the doctor community by my going in public after taking an alcoholic drink.”

The others doctors tried to reason with him as he was a very moderate drinker who can hold his alcohol well. Looking at him no can judge that he had taken even one peg of alcohol. There was no harm in going just for dinner to the restaurant, where many patrons anyway used to come after having few pegs of alcohol.

All this was of no avail, and therefore the doctors ordered some food for dine-in in the home rather than go the restaurant without their senior colleague. A salute to the doctor who was so worried about doctor’s community image.
