A senior professor from RP Centre (Eye Disease Centre) from AIIMS, New Delhi went on a fellowship (academic/learning) visit to a famous hospital in London, UK. The professor was already well qualified and was a world-class eye surgeon in his sub-specialty of eye surgery.
On the first day at the London hospital, when he was examining a patient, the British senior resident saw this and angrily said, “Don’t touch my patient.” The professor was shocked but being in a foreign setup in a foreign country he did not know how to respond.
But as they say, you could not hide or suppress true genius. Slowly and gradually with his participation in the clinical rounds, the doctors of that hospital realized the caliber of the genius who had come in their midst.
At the end of his visit, he was made honorary visiting faculty member at the same hospital where on the first day the senior resident asked him to stay away from the patients.
When you start in a new place, your previous achievements may not count or may not be considered. It like you have to format your laptop and then reinstall everything starting from a scratch or your favorite game gets reset and your score becomes zero. But with persistence and hard work people will realize your worth.
Till then, ‘don’t worry, be happy,’ as Robert H. Schuller had said, ‘Tough times never last, but tough people do.’
(Based on true incident)
